Tournament Rules * Three divisions
· A for highly competitive players, (NAGVA A/BB) · B for strong intermediate players (NAGVA B) · C for moderate intermediate players Participants have to register in ONE of the above divisions as part of ONE team. Co-ed teams (any combination of men and women) will be accepted in all divisions. Participants will select their own level of play during registration, however tournament officials reserve the right to re-evaluate teams and move them up or down a division if necessary. The organizing committee also reserves the right to combine or cancel divisions if there are an insufficient number of teams registered.
Preliminary (pool) Round - Friday Teams will be placed into pools according to the number of registrations in each division. Pool play will be played in a round robin format where each team will play two sets of 25 points against the other team in their pool. Each team, depending on the number of teams in the pool, will play a minimum of 4 matches during the preliminary round. Teams will advance to the elimination round according to their placement in the preliminary round. Elimination Round - Saturday The number of teams registered in each division will determine the number of teams advancing to the elimination round. The elimination round will be played as a double elimination format. Captain's Meeting The captain’s meeting will be held at 7:40 am on both Friday and Saturday morning to go over the logistics of the tournament and to discuss any issues/questions that may have arisen. Medals Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded for each division. Tournament Rules This tournament will adhere to the rules of Volleyball Officials will be accredited by Alberta Volleyball. All team members must wear matching uniforms (shirts), except for the libero, who must wear a shirt of a contrasting colour from the rest of the team. Team shirts must be numbered from 1 to 15 in front and back. The rules of Volleyball · Nets will be 2.43m in height. For the Flamingo division, the net will be 2.24m in height. · Ceilings are considered out of bounds. · To participate in the elimination round, a player must be included on the team registration sheet, in the right division, before the start of the first game on Friday morning. A player must also participate in a rally during the preliminary round in order to be eligible to play in the elimination round. · Two one-minute time-outs are allowed per set, per team. · If a team does not show up at the designated court at the scheduled game time, and unless held up by another game being played on another court, said team will automatically lose the first set 0-25 by forfeit. It is thus important to arrive in advance of your scheduled game time. · In the preliminary round, all sets will be of 25 continuous points (rally points), with a 2-point split not exceeding 27 points. · During team ranking classification, the number of cumulative points will be first taken into consideration. In the case of a tie, the following rules will apply in this order: the result of the game between the teams concerned (if possible), the ration of the points for and points against to the thousandth of a point, the ranking (seeding) of the tournament. · For the elimination round, all games will be best 2 out of 3. The first two sets will be of 25 continuous points (rally points). The third set will be of 15 continuous points. A split of 2 points between teams should be attained to win the set. There will be no point limits for all sets. For the third set, a random draw will determine service possession. Teams will switch sides once a team has reached 8 points. · Captains and the Head Referee must sign the game sheet to confirm the score. · If a team wishes to lodge a protest, the captain must immediately signal the intention to the Referee in charge of the game. The protest committee (Tournament Director, Referee Supervisor and Referee in charge of the game) will make an immediate decision. The decision is final and without contest. · Captains may only contest errors regarding the application or interpretation of a rule. Captains may not contest a decision concerning ball handling. Unlimited substitution between the same two players of the same team is permitted.
