Western Cup began in 1982 as a volleyball tournament and has grown to include many other sports. Although it has added other sports, volleyball still continues to be the largest sporting event over the Western Cup weekend.
Volleyball has been a staple with Western Cup, it has been offered since the very first tournament. It has grown to be the largest participating sport with well over 200 athletes in 32 teams. Every year the tournament draws players from all over Canada and even across the border.
The tournament will run over 2 days, with the first day being round robin and 2nd day will be playoffs and finals. Teams will be guaranteed 4 round robin games and playoffs will be double elimination. During round robin all teams will be required to ref games within their own division and on 2nd day refs from Volleyball Canada will be onsite to call playoff and finals.
All players teams are invited to come register at the opening event Thursday evening before the Friday games. Each player must check in with ID and sign off on their waivers before playing. Registration includes lunch for each day of tournament play as well as tickets to all the social events happening over the weekend.
The tournament will take place on Friday, April 10th and Saturday, April 11th at the Volleydome - 2825 24th Ave NW, Calgary.
